CHRIS FACEY

"Much like the Black photography masters before me, Carrie Mae Weems, Gordon Parks, or Don Hogan Charles, I too have a need to show accurate representations of my fellow Black men and women. In my experience Black history has always been hidden or cut short or even rewritten by those who wish to keep systemic racism and oppression alive and well. Those same people tried their best to make sure there weren't any Black victors or Black success stories. Those same people decided to show the world what "they" think Black people are versus who and what we really are. I hope for my images to be representations of Black power, Black intelligence, resiliency, and royalty. Not only for my people today, but for my people of tomorrow, while fueled with the energy of my people of the past."

Chris Facey is a photojournalist and portrait photographer raised in Brooklyn, NY and currently resides in Raleigh, NC. Chris has the ability to create images that are powerful yet tender.

BEING CAREFUL : CARRYING MORE THAN JUST A BURDEN

With this project I strive to bring awareness and understanding to the omnipresent fear that women have when out in the world by sharing the stories of women from several different backgrounds all for the right to feel safe in their own bodies. Free of becoming a victim. Free of being catcalled. Simply free to be.
